Tea gardens under a moody sky

Our heritage

Since 1918, steeped in tea.

More than a century ago our story began in the tea gardens of Assam. Four generations later, it is still a family story — and still about keeping promises.

Our story

“The tea leaves that dance in the breeze on our estates are not just a crop; they are a legacy, a tradition and a way of life.”

From those early days, our family’s commitment to tea has been unwavering. Passed down through each succeeding generation, the business has become a living testament to the passion that brews in our veins.

Today, with the fourth generation at the helm, Saman remains a true family enterprise — where every member is part of a shared journey, and where the values instilled by our forefathers guide decisions in four very different businesses.

Milestones

A century in the making.

1841

The oldest garden

The oldest of the group’s tea gardens is first planted — the roots of more than 150 years of tea experience.

1918

A family venture in tea

In Assam, our forefathers seize a moment of opportunity: among the first few Indians to acquire tea plantations that had stood under British ownership, they breathe new life into the estates and begin a journey in tea cultivation and production.

Gardens

Darjeeling, Assam, Dooars

The family’s gardens — Sombaria in Darjeeling, Baghmari in Assam, Huldibari in the Dooars — become a school of tea, and their teas reach auctions in India and buyers abroad.

Kolkata

Blending & export

A blending and export house grows in Kolkata, and the business widens into trading beverage and industrial products before expanding into manufacturing.

Global

Hubs on three continents

Saman Tea Kenya in Mombasa, Saman Far East in Ho Chi Minh City and Saman Global OÜ in Estonia bring the group close to origins and markets.

Today

Fourth generation

Saman Global Private Limited — four businesses in tea, oil, steel and agro FMCG, supplying more than 30 countries, and still a family enterprise at heart.

What endures

Lessons from the garden.

  • Patience — the best results come from long-term thinking over short-term gains
  • Craft — every leaf, every lot, treated with the respect it deserves
  • Care — for the people who grow, pack and ship our products
  • Constancy — every blend must taste as good as the previous one
